Uniform Colors
We took great care in choosing our uniform colors. We think that uniforms should be part of the healing environment presented to patients. Some colors, like neon yellow, seem less likely to contribute to peace, tranquility and an environment in which to rest and adjust to new health conditions.
While some research exists on the calming powers of certain colors, we found no research that discussed which shades of colors had these purported effects. So we looked to nature for calming shades.
We suggest different base colors for different types of professionals.
Blue for nurses.
Taupes for nursing assistants and technicians.
Mauves for housekeeping and dietary.
Green for physicians.

Mixing and matching shades
We suggest pairing light-colored tops with dark-colored bottoms. We chose the shades with this matching in mind. Some clothes have matching tops and bottoms, such as business suits and, at the other end of the spectrum of formality, pajamas. But neither of those models seemed right for health workers. Health care is far more athletic than the work of those who wear business suits, but health workers would not want to be perceived as wearing pajamas either. In between business suits and pajamas, people generally wear different colored tops and bottoms. So we suggest a mix and match approach to uniforms.
